antivirus for windows 7

For those of you who are testing out Windows 7, there are a few antivirus that have released their version of antivirus that is supported in the new OS. As a Kaspersky fan, I recently downloaded Kaspersky’s Technical Preview for Microsoft Windows 7.

At the heart of the new technical prototype is Kaspersky Lab’s new antivirus engine which is even more effective at detecting malicious programs than its predecessor. The new engine dramatically increases system scanning speed thanks to improved processing of objects and optimized use of system resources, particularly on dual- and quad-core processor platforms

The download is available for free at: http://www.kaspersky.com/windows7. Give it a try and see whether it effects the bootup time for Windows 7.

kaspersky anti virus problem

I recently bought a 3 license Kaspersky Antivirus 2009. The product version on the CD is version 8.0.0.357. This is fine.. for a while. I started to face problems opening pages in my browser. The startup time of my laptop was also effected. The solution to my problem was to update the product to the latest version. The first time I installed this product, I could not connect to the online database to update and validate my antivirus. This was also caused by the old version of the product.

So, if you have any problems with the 2009 version of Kaspersky, go to

http://www.kaspersky.com/kav_latest_versions and download the latest version.

NOTE: If you decide to reformat your PC/Laptop, make sure you release the key on your current PC/Laptop, just to be on the safe side and not be prompted that the key is currently in use.

To release the key, go to License tab on the left of the product, select Merge/Delete at the bottom of the product.

Microsoft arc mouse

After almost 1 month sitting in my room, I finally decided to open my Microsoft Arc Mouse (Designed for Comfort | Folds for Portability). The shape looks nice and attractive. It came in 2 colors, black and red. Mine is the red one. The package included the mouse, a pouch and 2 AAA batteries.

Update on vsewss (v1.3)

According to the Microsoft SharePoint Team Blog, there is a community preview for Visual Studio extension for Windows SharePoint Services.

The new updates are:

  • Can be installed on x64 Server OS machines running SharePoint x64. Previously only x86 Server OS could be used.
  • Separate build commands for package, deploy and retract are added
  • Command line build, package and retract commands are included enabling continuous integration and build servers. Previously command line build of SharePoint projects was very difficult
  • Refactoring support for renaming of Web Parts. Previously renaming a web part required changes in several files in the project
  • WSP View improvements for consistency of deleting feature elements, merging features and adding event receivers to features
  • Solution Generator can now generate solutions from publishing sites. Previously only regular sites could be generated
  • Allowing partial trust BIN deployments of web parts. CAS configuration must still be provided by the developer.
  • New project item template for SharePoint RootFiles items
  • Deployment will now optionally remove conflicting existing features on the development server prior to redeployment. Previously any feature name conflicts would result in an error
  • Ancillary assemblies such as for business logic can now be added to the SharePoint Solution WSP
  • Hidden features related to Site Definition projects are now shown in WSP View. They are no longer hidden
  • For advanced users a fast deploy is included to update only the compiled assembly on the SharePoint development installation
  • The User Guide is now installed with the extensions instead of being a separate download

SharePoint at technet msdn summit

SharePoint was represented at the Summit by Patrick Yong from Microsoft Malaysia. He presented on Building Amazing Content with SharePoint. He covered on how to light up the common “blue” portal by creating and modifying the master page.

He also talked a bit about taxonomy and how taxonomy can help in designing successful portal. The key take away for me was the set of guidelines that was mentioned as part of a taxonomy, which is the importance of gathering information and that content is equally as important as the design.

skydrive is now 25GB

Wow !! SkyDrive now gives its users 25GB of free space to store stuff. No longer do I have to rely on separate web apps to store and share my files and documents. COOOL !

You now even have a “What’s new with your network”, which lets you see what your friends or contacts have added to their space.

enabling sharepoint mobile view

By default, all SharePoint Lists are made available for mobile view. However, if you wish to disable that particular list; follow the steps below:

Navigate to the particular list (in the QuickLaunch) that you want to disable the mobile view (in this case, I want to make the news list not available for view in a mobile browser)quick launch

Once the List is open, go to the right side of the page, then under All Items, select Modify this View

allitems-mod

Next, scroll right to the bottom of the setting page and expand the Mobile section. From there, you will be able to disable or make it default.

mobile

Now that you have enabled/disabled this view, you can view your changes. To view the mobile address for your site, go to Site Setting page, and the address will be listed for you.

 viewmobile

You do not have to have an emulator to view the mobile view of the site. The address can be typed in IE and can be viewed.

viewmobile-browser

The mobile view may look a little boring, but it is better this way because it would be expansive to wait for the page to download all the fancy designs and pictures. So, best if it can be kept this way !
